Philanthropic Activities/Achievements

Nigeria’ North West is key to the improvement of the country’s development situation and attainment of sustainable development goals. The northwest has a population of more at least 50 million people and two-third of them are living in abject poverty and facing other challenges such as out-of-school children and limited access to quality education among others.

Sequel to the above prevailing circumstances, four (4) Non-Governmental organizations founded by one man and his two wives, Abubakar Malami, SAN, are working assiduously to ensure that happens.

ACTIVITIES/ACHIEVEMENTS

1. Boreholes
- Over 236 Boreholes were constructed across Kebbi State: Khadimiyya Foundation in it bid to reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity in Kebbi State. It constructed over 236 motorized boreholes with electric generators to various rural communities in dire need of portable drinking water across the 21 local government areas in the Kebbi state.
- This magnanimous acheivement has corroborated the objectives of the SDG’s Goal 6 which is Clean Water and Sanitation. The foundation comes to the aid of people to ensure there is adequate and sustainable withdrawals and supply of fresh water to address the scourge of water scarcity in the state.
2. DECENT JOB CREATION SCHEME
- Agric-Business Small and Medium Enterprise Investment Scheme (AGSMES)ranging from N1million to N5million each.
- The foundation has leveraged on the United Nations action to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full production employment and decent work for all. KDI has tried to promote development-oriented scheme that supports productive activities, decent jobs creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, and encourage formalization and growth of micro-small and medium-sized enterprises including through financial services. Over 5000 unemployed youths and women in Kebbi State were assisted through various intervention programs of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE). Again, Khadimiyya have facilitated loan facility to over 500 entrepreneurs under AGSMEIS of the CBN/NIRSAL and each beneficiary is required under the scheme to employ the services of 5 workers.
3. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SPECIAL PUBLIC WORKS PROGRAM & ANCHOR BORROWER’S FUNDS
- Over 3000 women were trained on various trades such as catering, cosmetic and tailoring amongst others. This has given them the valuable skills to earn a decent living and contribute to the internally generated revenue of the nation. All the aforementioned kind gestures go in tandem with the objectives of the SDGs goals eight which is decent work and Economic Growth.
4. Ramadan gifts, training and others
- Khadimiyya also provided Ramadan and Sallah support to at least 12600 Bags of Rice, 3000 Bags of Millet, 3000 Bags of Maize, 3000 Bags of Guinean corn, 150 Bundles of Attampa, 100 Bundles of Shadda, 7,000 Bundles of Silifas
- Khadimiyya for Justice and Development Initiative (KDI) also organized a five-day training workshop for over five hundred potentials entrepreneurs in Kebbi State. About 500 entrepreneurs drawn from all 21 Local Government Areas of Kebbi State participated in the capacity building program to enable them benefit from the CBN’s AGSMEIS package to promote their entrepreneurial skills.
- Kadi Malami Foundation supports 21 “Almajiri” feeding centers in Kebbi State on a weekly basis”. The foundation also provides direct feeding to 11 different centers across Birnin Kebbi. The total numbers of the feeding beneficiaries are put at 20,400
- The Kadi Foundation has also constructed or renovated 41 Islamic schools and 16 Jumat mosques around Kebbi State as at date.
5. Marriages, Maintenance, Religious and others
- The Kadi Malami Foundation spent a total of 71,308,880 amounts on health, marriages, maintenance, religious and others to 312 people since inception.
- Also food items such as Bags of Rice, Beans, Millet, Palm oils, Groundnut oil in jerry cans, and other essential commodities like, Bags of Omo, Pampers, Eggs, Sweats, Biscuits, Bags of Sugar, Clothes, Washing- machines etc. and cash donation are provided each and every month. These items costs the Foundation the sum of N895, 640.00 each month.
- Again during Ramadan period, Kadi Malami Foundation disbursed at least and other essentials commodities such as: Milk, Macaroni, Spaghetti e.t.c
6. Women empowerment with sundry appointments
- Hajiya Aisha Malami had provided 25 water boreholes each with a generator. It has also renovated and repairs many. The feeding of the needy and provision of child care supplies such as pampers and clothing is a regular activity of the Hajiya Aisha Foundation.
- The Al Iman Charity Foundation organized sensitization workshop/ motivation talk on self-development and importance of learning a trade. It has also provided training on Catering, cosmetics and tailoring as well as bead making with computer appreciation for 2900 women and youth-comprising 2000 women and 900 youth.
- As Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami has helped over 408 persons secure employment with various organizations.
- There are also about 100 tube wells provided by the Sokoto River-Basin Development Authority through the influence of the Minister of Justice. The tube wells are a source of water for irrigation and located in the Fadama areas of Gwandu, Argungu and Birnin Kebbi.
7. Towards Ending poverty, hunger and ensuring food security
- These activities have immensely contributed to the attainment of ten key areas of the SDGs as enumerated below:
- 1. Toward Ending poverty: The organizations goal of contributing to reducing poverty and hunger is done by providing income to households through its rice anchor borrower programme and the Casava programme. At least 1702 farmers benefited in the rice project and at least 2901 benefited from two cassava projects with all beneficiaries using the proceeds to provide sustenance, school fees and other needs of their families and thereby contributing to the reduction of poverty.
- 2. Ending hunger and ensuring food security with sustainable agriculture: The four organizations under the umbrella of Abubakar Malami have also contributed to ending hunger and ensuring sustainable agriculture by producing at least 100 tonnes of food commodities in its rice and cassava programmes. These have added to outputs of Kebbi state despite the flood experienced last year. With increased production of food the number of undernourished people has dropped in Kebbi state. Also the feeding programme under the Kadi Malami Foundation provides nutritious meals to 21 Islamic schools weekly thereby adding to the reduction of hunger and undernourishment.
8. Ensuring healthy living for all ages, Ensuring inclusive, equitable and quality education; Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
- Ensuring healthy living for all ages: Still, the four organizations, in particular, Khadimaya runs a community health programme that provides access to professional health care to 1000 members of Nassarawa Ward A of Birnin Kebbi Local Government. The programme coordinated by Hussein Abdullahi has continued to ensure healthy living for the 1000 members of Nasarawa ward and their families. There is now a plan to expand the arrangement to at least one ward of each Local Government in Kebbi State.
- Ensure inclusive, equitable and quality education: All four organizations have contributed to quality education more particularly the Kadi Malami Foundation which sponsors secondary and tertiary education. It had also provided support to educational pursuits through feeding of Islamic students.
- Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls: Under two organizations, the Hajiya Aisha Women and Children Foundation and Al-Iman Charity Foundation the Abubakar Malami organizations have contributed immensely to women empowerment and gender equality. They have each trained more than 3000 women in various trades such as catering, cosmetic and tailoring and others. These have given them the valuable skills to earn a living and contribute to the provision of food and other needs for their respective families.
9. Ensure efficiency in water supply and sanitation & others
- Ensure efficiency in water supply and sanitation: All the four organizations under the umbrella of Abubakar Malami are in the vital sector of provision of clean water and sanitation. All together they have helped sink 128 water Boreholes alongside electric generators. These have provided much-needed drinking water and improving access to clean water for drinking, hand washing and other household chores. The water programme has touched the lives of at least 60,000 households at 150 people to one borehole.
- The activities of the four organizations under the umbrella of Abubakar Malami have also intermittently covered the following three SDG areas; Partnership by partnering with the CBN on rice and cassava programmes and similarly partnering with NALDA on goat rearing. The organizations also ensure the reduction of inequalities in income by improving people’ ability to meet their needs. It also takes action on combating climate change through speak up about its effects and reducing water waste.
